On June 5, 2018, Governor John Carney kicked off legal betting in the Blue Hen state by placing $10 on his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. Instead, it was the small mid-Atlantic neighboring state of Delaware.
However, it wasn't the Garden State who broke through with legal betting first. Following the landmark Supreme Court decision to overturn the federal sports betting ban known as PASPA (The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act), all eyes were on New Jersey to become the first state outside of Nevada to offer legal betting.
